About us
Kennel Canina Aqua
Kennel Canina Aqua is a FCI registered kennel for the Spanish Water Dogs. After many years of breeding dogs, we have found our passion in this amazing breed. From day one we have fall in love with the Spanish Water Dog, each day we enjoy their presence in our lives and feel blessed to be able to contribute with our breeding program to this amazing, beautiful breed. Our breeding program is primarily based on health and quality of our dogs and future litters, which we do by very selective and carefully breeding. Each of our pups is from the earliest stage of his life being socialized and we put much effort in their socialization before they go to their new homes.

The secret of our success is team work. We keep in contact with the owners of all our pups and provide any kind of support if needed, either if it is a show dog or a pet dog, we do not make a difference in our support to the new owners. Our vision is that our dogs and their new families are extended part of our own family. During the years we have bred amazing dogs which have won lots of champion titles, and we feel very proud of their accomplishment in our breed.

Breed
Spanish Water Dog
PERRO DE AGUA ESPANOL
Spanish Water Dog, a rustic breed of the Iberian Peninsula, is a sturdy, medium-sized, well proportioned, athletic dog that is suited to perform a variety of tasks including herding, hunting, and assisting fishermen. He is a loyal, vigilant, and intelligent working dog with strong herding instincts.
They are hard-working, watchful, well-balanced breed, but could show some guarding instincts. As a very active dog, they require an experienced owner and are not a best choice for a first time dog owner. With a SWD your life will never be boring, as they need both, physical and mental stimulation every day, so if you are looking for an easy dog, then this just may not be the right
fit for you. Active working dog equals active people; otherwise they can get destructive in your home. Very important with this breed is an early socialization with other dogs, people, life in a city, sounds etc.
The breed is recognizable by their coat, which is curly with wolly texture and when it is long enough the coat forms beautiful cords. The coat must not be brushed or combed, but left naturally for a rustic look. As the coat grows it forms tight ringlets of curls which taper to a wispy point and the curls are teased apart by hand as they thicken. This gives the appearance of cords but is never felted, hard, heavy or blunt cut at the ends. It is of utmost importance that the true rustic nature of the coat is maintained to provide full protection in all weathers and working conditions. The length should vary from 3 cm minimum to 12 cm. maximum.
Size and height of a Spanish water dog, according to the official FCI standard should be as follows:
Males height 44 to 50 cm.
Females 40 to 46 cm.
2 cm of deviation is allowed in both sexes, whenever the dog maintains the balance according to his withers and height.
A full grown male should be between 18 and 22 kg and females between 14 and 18 kg.
Colour : Solid: White, black and chestnut in their different shades. Bicoloured: White and black or white and brown in their different shades. Regarding the health of a Spanish water dog, at this moment they do not have significant health problems which are common in lots of breeds, like hip dysplasia. They are still considerate as a very healthy breed, but as in every breed, there is always a possibility for unexpected health issues. Therefore, it is very important to test your dogs. For Spanish water dogs, recommended test are : screening for hip dysplasia by making an RTG of the hips and elbows, eye testing for the PRCD/ PRA and congenital hypothyroidism with goiter, the so known CHG test.
